  • The Daily Chores

At the end of the day a few checks we should be doing before settling in to our first frothy. Your tow vehicle:- Take a walk around and check your tires. Any strange noises? Look for the culprit. Give all accessories on the outside of the vehicle a shake, like the antenna mount for your UHF aerial. Check to see if your fridge has moved and the cooling vents are obstructed. Do you need to lift the bonnet? IF so a quick check of all fluids is a good idea especially if a hard days driving has ended. Your van or camper:- Check tire pressures, they may look good but!!!! A quick look under for any fluid leaks. Nothing worse than loosing precious water when there is none to be had. Any strange smells. Is the gas supply good and sound? Has anything rattled loose in doors? Don't want the microwave to land on your foot. Have a look at the date stamp on your tyres, the recommended age for them to be replaced varies but seven years appears the average age for replacement.

They say the wait is only to moisten the taste buds, well I hope our future recipes do just that. Watch this space.

  • Dryandra Forest Park Weekend Trip

The trip to Dryandra started on Friday. The run to the camp site was easy being on formed sealed roads and minimal gravel roads. Two hours and in the camp site getting set up. Good facilities available. The drive and walk on Saturday through regrowth bush. Night time visit to the sanctuary, not many furry folk tonight but good to see those who came for dinner. Red lights only so search and find the animal. Sunday another great drive then back to camp and pack up for home.

  • Avan Anniebrook Adventure November 2023

Leaving Perth on Tuesday after our morning appointments, the traffic heading south was busy but not stop start. Passing the Crooked Carrot, it was busy so we did not stop. As I had found more reasonable fuel before leaving we did not require a stop for the whole trip. Arriving at Southern Stars Holiday Camp, we were escorted to our bay. The bays here are huge so no skill required to back into place. Still having the camp hose guide us always helps. For this length of stay we put up our annex. A little more time to set up but each time we put up the annex we learn a little more. This time only slid the front section of the roof into the tracks before pushing up the roof. Walls up, annex complete, power and water connected, time for a cuppa. Happy hour rushed up so off to enjoy the company of fellow Avaners. The following days had us enjoying a trip to a winery for a picnic, a very generous dinner, afternoon games and happy hours each day. The weather held and only a few windy periods but warm so very comfortable. Saturday rolled around and time to pack up. We decided on a light brekky which had us on the road around 8am. Again minimal traffic so a smooth run home. If heading into the Busselton area, we recommend you check out this park. Only a short run into town, plenty of room in your bays, dog friendly with pet enclosed bays, stars at night, a fire pit lit for your enjoyment and a great camp kitchen area.
